CALL FOR COMPETITIVE RESEARCH GRANT PROPOSALS IN MANUFACTURING AND INDUSTRIALISATION

Deadline: 22 January, 2025

Rationale: Both Tanzania and Zimbabwe aim to overcome challenges in their manufacturing sectors, dominated by small-scale establishments. Tanzania's Third National Five-Year Development Plan and Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy emphasize the need for sustainable industrialization and innovation to achieve economic growth and development goals by 2025 and 2030, respectively. Scope of the Call: The call is open to collaborative projects from researchers in both countries, with an emphasis on gender equality and inclusivity. Each application must have a Principal Investigator (PI) from one country and a Co-PI from the other, promoting balanced gender representation in research teams. Objectives: The initiative seeks to strengthen research capacities, improve productivity in key sectors, and enhance gender integration and private-sector partnerships. Eligibility Criteria: Prominent researchers with at least five years of PhD experience and a strong research track record from recognized institutions in Tanzania and Zimbabwe are eligible to apply. Application Requirements: Applications must be submitted in English, adhere to thematic guidelines, and include evidence of collaboration, institutional support, and plans for capacity building. Gender equality considerations are prioritised throughout the project design. Budget and Duration: Projects can last up to 36 months, with specific budget ceilings for Tanzanian (maximum 120 million TZS) and Zimbabwean (maximum USD 45,000) applicants. Funds will be disbursed in installments based on progress reports. Assessment Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated on originality, relevance to national development priorities, team competence, gender inclusivity, capacity building, and plans for knowledge dissemination. This initiative offers a strategic platform for both countries to enhance their manufacturing sectors, foster innovation, and promote collaborative research practices. Click to View Details
